New to Cruising?

Are you new to Cruising?

If you are new to cruising then it can be a scary and daunting prospect! It's a plunge into the unknown for many people, but no need to be afraid all you need to do is ask! Well I'm going to save you the trouble and give you some tips and advice if you're new to cruising!

Not sure where to cruise?

Well that's a question only you can answer yourself, if you're new to cruising I would suggest a 7 night or less voyage just so you can find your sea legs. Each port has something different to offer, if you're unsure of how to get around all these exciting places every cruise line offers shore excursions at an extra cost, but this way you are sure visit all the best places and don't have to worry about the hassle of getting to and from the ship!  Perfect for first time cruisers.

What cabin should I book?

If you're on a budget and not sure what you will spend on board then I'd suggest an interior cabin as to be honest you don't spend that much time inside your cabin anyway, all cruise ships offer numerous things to do on board from cafĂ©'s & casino to an art gallery. However if you like the convenience of having you're own balcony to sit, relax and watch the world sail by then a balcony cabin is best for you. There's always a happy medium with an oceanview cabin which gives you natural light and a view to see what exciting destination you've woke up to that morning!

What to wear on board?

This can vary widely from cruise line to cruise line, so it's always best to check! For example if you cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line they operate a "Resort Casual" policy which is basically shorts and t-shirt there is no set dress code just as you feel comfortable, within reason of course. On the other end of the scale if you are booked with Cunard, they have a much dressier type of dress code, almost every night is smart and the formal gala nights are black tie.

How much luggage can I take?

Well if you're doing a fly cruise package then you can only take what the airline carrier will allow, however if you are sailing from a UK port like Southampton or Harwich then there isn't a luggage allowance so that's always a plus!

What are Gratuities?

Gratuities are basically tips, you pay them on board for the service that you've received from the staff on board. The only cruise line which they are mandatory with is Costa Cruises. Every other cruise line they are optional so it's up to you're discretion. Normally they are added to your on board account and paid off before you disembark.

Hope this little bit of info is helpful!

Please put forward any questions that you might have!

Ciao for now! :)
